# Find Similar Startups: full reference

Find Similar Startups (FSS) helps founders discover companies competing with an existing business or a startup idea. A search can begin with a company name, an official URL, or a plain-language product description.

## How the result set works

FSS first checks competitive relevance and filters weak matches. It then orders relevant companies by market importance and uses similarity to break ties inside the same importance level. Similarity and market importance remain separate judgments.

Market-importance labels include Major player, Established, Emerging, and Importance unclear. An unclear label keeps a potentially useful company visible when the available evidence does not justify a stronger classification.

When a company name is ambiguous, FSS asks for more context, such as a country, domain, or one-line description.
